Getty Images makes 35 million images free for use

Whilst it is the case that not all bloggers use images in their posts, for those that do it can be quite difficult to find that image that you want.

Often, searching take quite a bit of time only to discover that the image you’ve found is copyright or licensed for other uses.

Getty Images recently discovered that many people were simply using Google Image search and using those images without actually checking a) where they came from and b) if they were under any specific copyright.  Even worse was that a lot of Getty’s images were having their watermark removed so it could be even more difficult to ascertain the original source (and I assume define blame).

Well, things just got better!  In a move similar to the old ‘if you can beat them, join them’ Getty has made 35 million of their images free.  All you need to do is use their new embed tool and you can get using as many pictures as you can manage;

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Click an image’s embed icon (</>) from the search results or image detail page.
  2. In the embed window, copy the embed code.
  3. Paste the HTML code you copied into the source code of a website or blog where you want this image to appear.
  4. Publish and share!
